Holiday Dog Treats To Put Under The Tree

Stefanie Paganini from the Paganini School of Cooking in Chesterland shares a recipe with us on WDOK every Friday morning and this month she shares with us her two favorite dog treat recipes on our craft page so you can put something special and homemade under the tree for your favorite dog!!!
Here they are….
Christmas tree biscuits
- 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup evaporated low fat milk
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 3/4 cup beef stock
- 2 large eggs
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Mix all ingredients together. Take dough out and put on a floured surface. Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out cookies with holiday cookie cutters. Roll out scraps again and cut out more! Place dog treats on parchment paper lined baking sheets approximately 3/4″ apart. Bake about 15 minutes until golden brown. Flip shapes over and bake until golden brown again (approximately 5 minutes). Cool on a cooling rack then place on a couple pieces of tissue paper, wrap, and put in decorative bags (see below).
Pumpkin biscotti
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 3 TBSP canola oil
- 1/4 cup pumpkin puree
- 4 TSBP honey
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup sunfower seeds
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Stir together flour, baking powder and cinnamon. Set aside. In a separate bowl, whisk together canola oil and honey until blended. Add eggs one at a time, stirring to combine. Add pumpkin to wet ingredients. Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir to form a smooth dough. Mix in half of the sunflower seeds.
On a well floured surface, divide the dough in half and form each in a log. Spread the rest of the seeds over the top of the biscotti logs.
Bake logs about 15 minutes on parchment lined baking sheet until browned or until firm to touch in the center.
Cool logs, then slice on an angle about 1/2″. Place biscotti pieces back on baking sheet with parchment and bake for about 10 more minutes. Let cool and place on tissue paper, then in bags!
Doggie treat gift bags
You’re gonna need this stuff….
- Paperbags…any color
- Cellophane paper…any color
- exacto knife and a piece of cardboard to place under the bag when cutting
- pencil
- cookie cutters
- ribbon
- markers…various colors
- holiday stickers
Lay your bag on the cardboard, then trace around a cookie cutter. Remove cookie cutter and cut through both sides of your bag with the exacto knife. Cut two pieces of cellophane paper to fit the inside of each side of your bag. Glue all sides and attach to bag. It’s up to you if you want to glue the bag shut or gather and tie with decorative ribbon. Add holiday stickers and write the name of the dog on the bag.
Check out the video of us making these treats for Pooka and Duffy with Stefanie, Terry Moir and her daughter Hana and my nieces Jodi and Carly!
Duffy and Pooka look like they could be brother and sister, but there seems to be some sibling rivalry between them on this day
